The Coastal Kingfish operated as an independent professional baseball team in the Continental Baseball League in 2009 and 2010; and then it operated further in the new Pecos League starting with the 2011 season. The team was a "travel" ("road") team in that it didn't host any home games. However, the team was owned/operated by the future Pecos League commissioner. It had a home base for spring training and practices during off days in the South Houston Texas area at Coastal Baseball Park.

More about the team can be found on this page (here) and this Wayback/Archive of the team's website: https://web.archive.org/web/20130831190551/http://www.coastalkingfish.com/kingfish.asp?page=3

The Kingfish joined the Continental Baseball League late in 2009, during the Spring Training portion of the season, due to replacing a team which had intended to operate in the North Texas area. The remaining 2009 CBL teams gained additional home games and helped fund the Kingfish since it had no home games to gain revenue.
