Earlier this month I finally had a chance to train at a gym with original Nautilus equipment. The gym's owner, Dan Judge, was open to going over so many aspects of the little-known High Intensity Training. We covered almost every subset of H.I.T. from Arthur Jones' original training recommendations to Mike Mentzer's Heavy Duty Training to Ellington Darden's books to IFBB Mr. Olympia Dorian Yates' Blood & Guts style of weight training.
Dan has his own training recommendations based on having competed on stage at the NPC, and as an invitee for an IFBB show, in the early 1990's in California. He was so down to Earth, plus he has additional specialty as a trainer for helping people with unique medical conditions such as M.S. and for those recovering from a stroke. I personally met two members there with M.S. who amazed their doctors on how much, and how quickly, they regained muscle and functional use of their limbs, grip strength, and more.
After our conversation Dan invited me to train with him, and I finally got to use original Nautilus equipment - such as what was available in the 1970's and 1980's. I felt the difference and wish that I had found The Gym sooner as that equipment works the muscles so well. Most H.I.T. training advocates - from fans of Jones all the way to Mentzer - usually agree that finding original Nautilus equipment is considered a "hidden gem" to help improve muscle development better than when using other equipment.
